After taking a thorough ass-whupping Tuesday night, Donald Trump behaved as you would expect: denying reality we all saw with our eyes; whining about unfair, biased moderators; making ridiculous statements about having won the debate. Moments ago Politico and other outlets reported a Trump post saying ”THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE,” either losing track of how many times he has debated Kamala (?)or else including his debate with Joe Biden in the mix.
A day earlier he went on the friendly confines of “Fox and Friends” to complain about the moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis as being biased against him (for a couple of modest fact checks on several of his most egregious lies), saying that ABC “should lose its license for this” — the kind of thing you can sure as hell believe he’d try to do if he were to have a second term.

ON EXECUTING BABIES: The first fact check came from moderator Linsey Davis, after Trump said some Democrats support executing babies after they are born. “There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born,” she said, then moved on to the next question.
ON IMMIGRANTS EATING DOGS AND CATS: Moderator David Muir pushed back on Trump’s claim that Haitian immigrants are eating pets in Springfield, Ohio. ABC News had looked into the claim, Muir said, and a city official “told us there have been no credible reports of specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.” Trump responded that “I’ve seen people on television” suggest otherwise.
ON CRIME LEVELS ACROSS THE COUNTRY: In another exchange, Muir told Trump “the FBI says overall violent crime is actually coming down in this country.” Trump told him that was “fraud.”
ON 2020’s “STOLEN ELECTION”: Regarding the 2020 election and Trump’s previous comments saying it was stolen from him, Muir offered a “clarification” and said that Trump and his allies brought some 60 lawsuits and many judges said “there was no widespread fraud.” Muir also asked Trump about a recent comment of his, in which Trump said he “lost by a whisker.” Trump told Muir that he made the comment “sarcastically, you know that.” Muir said that he watched the videos and that “I didn’t detect the sarcasm.”
In his response it is noteworthy that Trump used the pronoun “we” in referring to the violent mob. He also referred to those defending the Capitol as “the other side.”
Something Trump was not fact-checked on was his response to a question about having any regrets for the actions of January 6. Trump lied, saying: “I had nothing to do with that other than they asked me to make a speech.” In his response it is noteworthy that Trump used the pronoun “we” in referring to the violent mob. He also referred to those defending the Capitol as “the other side.”1
Think of that -- and perhaps ask why the media has not picked up on it more — TRUMP REFERS TO THE MOB AS “WE,” AND THE CAPITOL POLICE AS “THE OTHER SIDE.”
So in the couple of days since his debacle, Trump has whined about being held (somewhat) accountable to the truth; claimed victory…as if his tactic (like Hitler’s) that “if you say it enough they will believe it (the lie)”2; and chickened out of facing Kamala — his worst nightmare — again.
I am puzzled about how his followers can stomach this stuff…what if their high schooler came home after losing a wrestling match whining about the refs and claiming they really won? Would they tolerate that? Encourage it? Or their sixth-grader didn’t hand in a paper and whined about the difficulty of the assignment?

What fact-checking did Muir and Davis do?

If you want to reference the debate…or share it with friends…here it is:
“Ashli Babbitt was shot by an out-of-control police officer that should have never, ever shot her,” [Trump] said, adding: “Nobody on the other side was killed.” At debate, Trump claims he had ‘nothing to do with’ Jan. 6 attack
