I posted this article exactly a year ago today…in the hope that stories like this would remind the elusive “swing voter” or “low information voter” of exactly how corrupt, self-centered, and corrosive Trump was and is…

….and how destructive he is to our polity and culture…and may indeed turn out to be for our physical and financial well-being. Alas, this country voted for him. BUT THAT IS NO REASON TO STOP TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT JANUARY 6 — because otherwise before we know it MAGA will have made it a national holiday eclipsing July 4.

When you went to bed on January 7, 2021 did you ever believe that in very short order the right wing message machine would even TRY to spin the J-6 miscreants as heroes and patriots? Yet here we are three years later and that’s exactly what they’ve been up to, with a good bit of success according to recent polling.

Here's what one independent voter from Texas told pollsters:

“The people that went there to express their views, to support Trump, were peaceful. The government implants were the violent ones: the FBI, the police people that were put in there, the antifa and BLM hired by George Soros; everybody knows that.” (Aside: I couldn’t help but recognize one of Trump’s literary devices in that man’s speech: “everybody knows it.” Right up there with “people are saying..”)

Gallows meant for Pence, who despite years of puppy-dog obsequiousness, would not commit sedition for Trump. No “hero” by any means, but he did the right thing that day.

Now:

• Trump has vowed to pardon all of these offenders on day 1 of his new administration.

• Members of Congress visit the DC jail to bemoan the “tough conditions” the J-6 offenders face pending their trials.

• The new Speaker Mike Johnson released J-6 video but not before blurring out faces so that more of the miscreants could not be identified.

• Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis promise to pardon Trump, should they be president and should he have been convicted.

This from the “party of law and order,” that wants to abolish the FBI (after all, they held these thugs — their thugs — to account)led by a cult leader who – in another context – admonished police not to be too gentle with suspects they apprehend.

The willingness of so many to fall for whitewashing and even glorification of the events of January 6 is mind-boggling. PLEASE take a look at this clip from Jake Tapper, who in real time on Jan.6, said he wanted people to remember how they felt watching these images of Trump supporters storming the Capitol “because there’s going to be an attempt to whitewash and pretend this didn’t happen.”

The whitewash began immediately and continues to this day. ¹

I am sure my subscribers never believed it was “a normal tourist visit,” or citizens participating in “normal political discourse,” but if you have friends/family/acquaintances to do, show them this photo collection from the archives of National Public Radio, or this one from ABC News.

And please disabuse them of their fantasy. Don’t worry that it’s not polite. Don’t worry about their “feelings.” Have at it with them. It’s time to choose.
