Texas Supreme Court Tells Mom: “You’re not Close Enough to Death Yet – Have That Doomed Baby!”
.....is this a preview of what life under Christian Nationalists will look like?
It’s “Freedom”??
…A young Texas mother of two whose fetus has Trisomy 18, a genetic condition in which almost all pregnancies end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or or early death of the baby, went to court for permission to end her pregnancy. The condition could also threaten the mother’s life and future fertility. Texas has highly restrictive abortion laws that are extremely punitive to doctors who perform an abortion.
Last week a Texas judge ruled that the mother could have an abortion, finding that her “…life, health, and fertility are currently at serious risk,” and the longer [she] stays pregnant, the greater the risks to her life.”
But Texas AG Ken Paxton appealed the decision to the TX Supreme Court, which invalidated the lower court’s decision.
As a result the mother left Texas to get her needed health care. Not before saying:
“I am a Texan. Why should I or any other woman have to drive or fly hundreds of miles to do what we feel is best for ourselves and our families, to determine our own futures?”
One only hopes American women (and their sons, brothers and husbands!) remember that this gross infringement on their rights was perpetrated by a Republican party taken over by Christian Nationalists hell-bent on suppressing women, people of color, and non-Evangelicals.
And, have no doubt about it, this is about way more than abortion rights. They talk a lot about “freedom,” but the reality is they want to impose their world view on us all. They will infringe on all of your rights if your rights stand in the way of imposing their agenda, starting with your right to vote.
This has become a party-wide sickness…you CAN’T vote for an R for ANY OFFICE AT ANY LEVEL…not even dog-catcher.
Speaking of Voter Fraud….
It’s reported that Casey DeSantis, wife of Republican presidential contender Ron DeFascist, went on FOX “news” and “urged supporters from elsewhere to ‘descend upon the state of Iowa to be a part of the caucus,’ saying “you do not have to be a resident of Iowa to be able to participate in the caucus.” Note that the Republican party has for years stoked fears of voter fraud, which election experts unanimously say is exceedingly rare…
Not to be undone by his ambitious wife, DeFascist further debased himself with a comment criticizing Trump for not pardoning the J-6 thugs on his last day in office, saying: "And indeed, on his last day in office, you know, did he help the people that got caught up in the Capitol stuff that he told to go there to do? Any support for them? No!"
Yeah, this is the party of law and order.
…And now, standing up for of law and order, we have…
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson — who was neck deep in the January 6 coup attempt — plans to release video footage of the riot, somehow thinking public access to the actual video will soften the public’s impression of the insurrection. BUT HE WON’T BE RELEASING THE FOOTAGE UNTIL FACES ARE BLURRED, so that online sleuths will not be able to aide law enforcement in identifying the rioters.
This is consistent with the position the RNC took in censuring former Representatives Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney for their work on the J-6 committee, work the RNC characterized as “…persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.” You can read that breathtaking pronouncement here.
