Putin Endorses Trump, Graham Dodges a Bullet, and Huckabee Threatens Bullets
...While MTG and Boebert…dance to the GOP music
I’ve been a little lax with my posts in the last few weeks…been at the SC coast on a vacation that included two weeks with young grandchildren, leaving little time or energy for blogging. And, during that time, so much going on. Here’s an attempt to catch up on some developments. We’ll touch on:
Surprise! Putin “Endorses” Trump, Parroting His “Election Interference” Lies
McCarthy Green-Lights Impeachment Probe
Graham Indictment Was Recommended By Grand Jury
Huckabee Threatens that Bullets Will Fly if Indictments Block Trump’s Election
MTG, Boebert Continue To Embarrass Themselves, and Constituents
Putin “Endorses” Trump, Parroting His “Election Interference” Lies
At an economic forum in Vladivostock, Putin opined that the various prosecutions of Donald Trump amounted to “political persecution” and illustrated the “rottenness of the US political system.” He said that this was “good for Russia” as it means the US is in no position to lecture others about democracy (thus clearing the field for autocrats like him and his budding Autocrats’ Club. A club Trump was and still is desperately trying to join).
With this speech Putin is personally joining into the disinformation campaigns like those that he commissioned that resulted in the UK’s vote for Brexit and the narrow election of Trump, both “successes” aimed at destabilizing the democratic West in 2016.
Once again, in parroting Trump’s lies mischaracterizing his indictments, Putin is working to support Trump. Par for the course for this mutual admiration society. Putin yearns to put Trump back into the WH. Remember how Trump called Putin’s invasion “brilliant”?
Yet Trump also claimed that Putin would never have invaded Ukraine on his watch, saying:
"Putin would have never gone into Ukraine, but that was just on my relationship with him. My personality over his. [He] would have never gone in. I used to speak to him. I was the apple of his eye, but I said 'Don't ever do it.' It was tough stuff there, but he would have never done.”
The real truth? A main reason Russia intervened to help Trump gain the Presidency was its belief that Trump would have stood by and let it happen. As David Frum, a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush and current senior editor at The Atlantic, wrote:
“Helping Trump into the US presidency was Putin’s supreme accomplishment as dictator. A Trump 2nd term would have wrecked NATO from within. With no one to help, Ukraine would have been easy pickings for Putin.”
….Meanwhile, the Putin caucus in the Republican party continues to grow. (If you don’t click any other links embedded in this post, CLICK THIS ONE.) Watch for them to demand an end to, or deep cuts in, aid to Ukraine as part of their push to shut down the government if their demands are not met.
McCarthy Green-Lights Impeachment Probe
The gelded Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, OK’d an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, based on…..?
Oh well, they did it to Trump, so we’re gonna do it right back. And besides, Trump told us to.
According to reporting in the NY Times, Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) said she told Mr. Trump that she wanted the impeachment inquiry to be “long and excruciatingly painful for Joe Biden.” The Times’ account pointed out that Trump’s dinner with MTG “came just two nights before Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced his decision on Tuesday to order the opening of an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, under intense pressure from his right flank.”
“The Hill” also reported on the Trump-Freedom Caucus axis-of-evil machinations:
Former President Trump has been keeping close ties with House Republicans as they barrel toward an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Trump has privately discussed the inquiry with members of the House Freedom Caucus and other top Republicans, The New York Times reported. These discussions come as Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) directed committees Tuesday to open a formal impeachment inquiry into Biden based on House probes into his family’s foreign business dealings and the prosecution of his son Hunter Biden.
Graham Indictment Was Recommended By Grand Jury
Turns out that the grand jury that investigated the Trump team’s efforts to overturn Georgia’s election results “recommended indicting more than twice as many Trump allies as prosecutors eventually sought to charge, including Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, the former senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, and Michael Flynn, a former national security adviser,” as well as a number of lawyers working in league with him, including Boris Epshteyn, Cleta Mitchell and Lin Wood. Seems the DA used “prosecutorial discretion” in deciding which cases would be the strongest in triaging this cabal, all of whom likely deserved indictment.
Huckabee Threatens that Bullets Will Fly if Indictments Block Trump’s Election
From The Messenger:
“In a segment over the [Labor Day] weekend on his Trinity Broadcast Network series, the former Arkansas governor suggested the four sets of criminal charges Trump is facing is an attempt to keep him from office, comparing the tactics to those used in Third World dictatorships." [Further, he said that] “If these tactics end up working to keep Trump from winning or even running in 2024, it is going to be the last American election that will be decided by ballots rather than bullets."
I’ll remind you, this political commentator is a Baptist minister…a former Republican Governor of Arkansas…and a two-time candidate for the Republican presidential nomination (2008, 2016). His daughter was the (supremely unqualified) press secretary and front-line liar for Trump. And she’s now Governor of Arkansas.
And finally…
MTG, Boebert Continue To Embarrass Themselves, and Constituents
According to news accounts Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (CO) was evicted from a musical in Denver for creating a ruckus. Apparently, she and a companion were vaping, singing loudly, and video-recording the production (against theatre rules). When they refused to stop, security evicted them. Meanwhile, her blood rival for the attention of the MAGA crowd, Marjorie Taylor Greene, was parading around a football stadium in Iowa with “Impeach Biden” and “MAGA Mo” posters.
Believe it or not, these two dumb-as-a-rock attention seekers are in Congress…and, along with the fraud George Santos and the freaks from the Freedom Caucus, will decide whether the government shuts down later this month. This pack of clowns gets to determine what happens to the value of your IRAs and 401Ks if/when the market reacts to a shutdown.
Their shenanigans since Ted Cruz “invented” shutdown showdowns in 2013 is what Fitch Ratings was referencing when they cited “deterioration in governance” in explaining their recent downgrade of the country’s credit rating from AAA to AA+.
Given their IQs, their need for attention, and constant idiotic performitude, it’s fair to ask whether their act belongs on a comedy club stage rather than in the halls of Congress.
Who the heck votes for these people??!!
