Trump hanger-on Kash Patel was on the “War Room” podcast of fellow grifter and proto-fascist Stephen K. Bannon this week, talking about what to expect should there be a second Trump administration. Responding to a question from Bannon as to whether a second Trump administration “could get rolling quickly on prosecutions.” Patel responded with a breathtaking claim, that has not received the attention it deserves.

“We will go out and find the conspirators, not just in government, but in the media. Yes, we’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens, who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections– we’re going to come after you, Whether it’s criminally or civilly, we’ll figure that out. But yeah, we’re putting you all on notice…We’re…going…to prosecute them for crimes they said we have always been guilty of but never have.”

Who is this guy? Kash Patel was one of the many totally unqualified, totally out of his depth officials who came to positions in Trump’s administration whose only “qualification” was loyalty and willingness to fight for Trump. In Patel’s case (and many others) you would laugh out loud at the absurdity of him holding these positions if instead you weren’t totally horrified (and outraged?) that your country’s wellbeing was entrusted to such hands.

As David Ignatius wrote in the Washington Post, Patel rose “from an obscure Hill staffer to become one of the most powerful players in the national security apparatus.” He was an aide to Devin Nunes (R-CA), who chaired the House Intelligence Committee at the start of Trump’s term and tried mightily to protect Trump from investigations into his campaign’s ties to Russia.

That role was his entree. Given his willingness and zeal to serve as Trump’s protector, he moved to a senior position at National Security Council and where Ignatius reports, “he was a senior adviser to acting director of national intelligence Richard Grenell and his successor, John Ratcliffe, helping lead their efforts to remove senior career intelligence officers.” (P.S.- Both Grenell and Ratcliffe were also totally unqualified for their jobs, which they also “earned” through their Trump sycophancy.) From there he became chief of staff for acting Defense Secretary Chris (where were you on J-6?) Miller.

I wrote this brief post to highlight the dangers that are around the corner. People like this are the ones who will replace the professional, non-political, experienced hands on the wheel.

It’ not just that they are incompetent…it’s that they are ruthless, unprincipled, dedicated to gaining, wielding, and holding power, democracy and the rule of law be damned.

Be ready to do what you can to be sure it doesn’t happen.
